Personnel Profiles

Jacqueline Matthews

Jacqueline MatthewsJacq completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in archaeology and anthropology at the University of Queensland in 2013, receiving First Class honours and the University Medal. Now based in Perth, she is currently working on Master of Philosophy at the University of Western Australia.

She has extensive experience in both field and lab-based Indigenous archaeology, with a specialisation in the analysis of stone artefacts (and including sedimentary and faunal analysis). She has participated in multiple rockshelter excavations across northern Australia, as well as the survey, recording and investigation of open Indigenous and historic sites. Jacq has also worked on archaeological research projects in Malawi and France.

A keen believer in the importance of broader disciplinary engagement, Jacq served as the Membership Secretary of the Australian Archaeological Association during 2011-12, and in 2012 joined the World Archaeological Congress’ Student Committee and was elected as the co-chair of that committee in early 2013.

Jacq is an Associate Member of the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists and a member of both the Australian Archaeological Association and the World Archaeological Congress.

She is especially interested in the role of social media in academia, and you can follow her on Twitter @archaeo_jacq.
